The College and Career Advising Office provides comprehensive guidance for students and their parents. The College and Career advisor actively assists students as they explore careers, and research colleges or other post secondary options. Working with the aims of High Mowing School for students to discover who they are and where their unique talents can be realized after graduation, the advising program is individualized and varied. Throughout the year, the College and Career Advising Office offers many resources to students and parents for college and life planning, financial aid, scholarships, standardized tests, gap year options and more.
College advising begins formally in the junior year and includes individual meetings, college and career seminars and day and evening presentations on a variety of topics. The advisor works with students to find colleges or other options that best meet the students' interests, needs, and goals and to strategize for success in meeting those goals. The advisor is available for discussions and planning for all interested students and parents in the freshman and sophomore years when needed.
All juniors and seniors and their parents have personalized online accounts to access Naviance, a nationally-recognized college counseling software resource. The advisor facilitates regular communication with college representatives and gap year programs, many of whom visit the school each year to meet out students. Most students do apply to college during the senior year and a large number also consider taking a gap year before attending. The Advisor supports each student through all aspects of the application process.
