Student Exchange Program: It's Begun!
Noah, a sophomore, is involved in an exchange program this year with a student from École Rudolf Steiner de Lyon et Sa Région. Lucas is here for the fall, and Noah will be traveling to France in the spring. Noah and Lucas will chronicle their experience for us.
It’s for real. The exchange student who existed only in emails, my imagination, and the occasional Facebook stalking session is arriving on Saturday. Two days until this fantasy becomes something tangible as a real, live Frenchman. I’m excited, of course I am. How could I not be? I have never even been outside of the United States (except for Canada once when I was an infant) and barely even off the East coast (again, Canada stands alone as the exception).
I was always that kid who, when the teacher asked where we went on vacation, said “Oh, I just kind of hung around.” Now that faraway place that only exists in rom-coms, Bond movies, books, atlases, and other people’s experiences is being delivered to me in the form of a neatly arranged exchange program. Now it’s my turn to be the one to tell quirky stories about back-alley restaurants in far away places with kooky chefs. It’s my turn to see the world, and man am I happy about it.
