Chanukah Happenings

Students enjoy latkes and play the dreidel game in the dormsby Liva Jostad-Laswell

As part of this year’s holiday festivities at High Mowing we have been observing Chanukah, the Jewish festival of lights. This year, Chanukah began the night before Thanksgiving—the first Chanukah-Thanksgiving overlap in nearly 100 years, and the last we will see for about another 70 years. Luckily, Chanukah’s timing still offered us four nights for celebration here at HMS.

Residential Life with Liva

Liva Jostad-Laswell, HMS Residential Life InternLiva is one of three Residential Life Interns at High Mowing this year. Liva’s sister, Ariana, graduated from High Mowing in 2003, and their stepsister, Rachel Miller, graduated in 1993.

Most evenings find me sitting on the big leather sofa in the girls dorm common room, often with a fire crackling and a few students around me working on their homework. Some nights are quiet, and I can do my knitting, chat with a colleague, and correct papers for the seniors I am mentoring.
