Urban Art in Chicago

High Mowing

Many people know that a common nickname for the city of Chicago is “the windy city.” However, if you’ve never been to the Midwest, you may not know that Chicago has a rich and vibrant art scene — and much of it is happening right out on the streets! This trip was primarily geared to musicians who are interested in learning from and playing blues music with Chicago’s great teachers and performers. In addition, we took part in the slam poetry scene and Improv Theater. We also visited architectural wonders and the collection at the Chicago Art institute. Thanks to our main correspondent, teacher and dorm counselor Liva Jostad-Laswell, for most of the photos and updates.

First Day in Chicago

We began our first full Chicago day with a trolley tour to begin familiarizing ourselves with the city and its sights. First stop was the shore of Lake Michigan for a group shot with the skyline, and after seeing a number of important spots, we headed to Millenium Park to take a photo at "the Bean", officially called Cloudgate.
