We are pleased to announce the Founders Merit Scholarship program, which will be available beginning in the 2012-13 High Mowing School academic year. Five scholarships will be awarded each year, in the amount of $10,000 for boarding students and $7,500 for day students. These are the first scholarships dedicated exclusively to students entering High Mowing, and are a perfect complement to the scholarships that already exist for current students.
In 1942, Beulah Hepburn Emmet decided to transform her family’s summer home into a school she called High Mowing. Her inspiration as she put it, was to create a place “to face and meet the needs of students, to awaken an interest in learning…so that they could stand on their own two feet and go forward into the world, directed and alive.”
In honor of Mrs. Emmet and all of the people who supported her in establishing and growing High Mowing into the school it is today, 70 years after the first students arrived, the Board of Trustees has established the Founders Merit Scholarship program. These awards will recognize incoming 9th graders from Pine Hill Waldorf School, towns in the Monadnock and Souhegan Valley regions, select independent schools, and Waldorf schools across the country.
The competitive awards will recognize academically exceptional students with excellent character, as demonstrated through their activities and community service. Awards are made without consideration of financial need. However, award recipients are also eligible for tuition adjustment, based on family need.
