Class of 2012 Graduates
Posted 07/01/2012 01:00AM

“Lesson learned. If you ever need a good cry, attend a commencement ceremony at High Mowing School. And have at least one handkerchief if In Woo Son ’12 and Sophia Darby ’13 begin singing Time to Say Goodbye.” Those were the words of Moe Kirk, mother of graduating senior, Dylan Kirk. They underscore the bonds of attachment students and families have made to the school and each other in the course of their years at High Mowing. There were tears of joy mixed with sadness on this special day, as seniors stepped forth into the rest of their lives.

After a spring saturated with rain, students, friends and families delighted in the arrival of June 9, and the accompanying sunshine and blue skies on “the Hill.” Warmth also radiated from the welcome address by Executive Director, Rea Gill, and the personalized remarks of Faculty Co-Chair Wendy Bruneau. Senior speakers Mackenzie Renaud ’12 and Tolin Vaccaro ’12 shared a glimpse into the life of a High Mowing student. At the end of his speech, Tolin added, “from this day forward each of us will begin a new chapter in our lives. We are fortunate to live in a country where we have the opportunity to follow our dreams, and there is nothing we cannot accomplish. Everything we do will have an impact on those around us — and the world.  We will be defined by our actions, as well as our words.”

In her Keynote address, beloved teacher, Patrice Pinette, challenged the students to be passionate and to dare to do their best. Then, Dean of Students Cary Hughes and Academic Dean Robert Sim spoke fondly — and often with humor — about each graduating student. After Allison Hill ’13 shared the closing verse, caps flew skyward, students beamed, eyes sparkled and kerchiefs were tucked away. Congratulations to all our graduating seniors! We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see what you’ll do in the world.
