Fiona Graham and Allison Hill, both seniors at High Mowing School, have been named as finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. They qualified on the basis of their scores on the PSAT/NMSQT, along with outstanding academic records throughout high school and a recommendation by High Mowing. Approximately 1.5 million high school juniors enter the competition each year by taking the PSAT/NMSQT.
The nationwide pool of semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of US high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. Along with excellent grades and recommendations, finalists must also demonstrate SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
Approximately 15,000 students have advanced to the finalist level. All National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from this finalist group, and are eligible for $2500 National Merit scholarships as well as special scholarships provided by businesses and corporations. Final scholarship awards will be announced later in the spring.
We are proud of Allison and Fiona, and wish them success in being chosen to receive college scholarships.
