We Welcome Students From Abroad
International students find a welcoming educational home at High Mowing School:
- Our curriculum is flexible and challenging.
- Our faculty is generous and helpful.
- Our small community is homelike and supportive.
- High Mowing School is the only Waldorf high school in the United States that offers a boarding program.
High Mowing's curriculum provides a strong foundation for future college work, while also offering students freedom to choose work in fields of particular interest. The arts are integrated into the curriculum and there are plentiful opportunities to develop skills in the fine and performing arts. Students have the option to join a number of after school activities including clubs, sports teams and intramurals.
International students at High Mowing find our faculty to be extraordinary in their helpfulness and generosity. Teachers are deeply committed to helping their students succeed. The faculty includes a number of speakers of Spanish, French and German.
International students appreciate our home-like atmosphere and the beautiful campus. Dormitory counselors create a family feeling in our residential program. High Mowing's school community is small enough so that everyone gets to know each other, and the students encourage and support one another.
Each year, High Mowing School welcomes students from all over the world to study and live on our campus. Over the past five years we have enrolled students from Bali, Canada, China, France, Germany, Israel, Korea, Mexico, Spain, and Switzerland. Up to 120 students are enrolled at High Mowing in grades 9 through 12, and 13-16% of our students come from outside the United States each year.
High Mowing does not require TOEFL or SLEP testing, but a basic understanding of English is required in order to participate in classes. Most international students are required to participate in our English as a Second Language (ESL) and International Student Program, at either the intermediate or advanced level.
The ESL program is designed to help students integrate into the School’s curriculum and community as quickly as possible. This program consists of an orientation program prior to the start of school in September and classes that are scheduled three times per week throughout the school year.
The fee for ESL & International Student Program is $6,000 per year (additional to boarding tuition).
To apply for admission, please download the Admissions Materials, complete the forms and return them, with the $100 international application fee, to High Mowing School. The application fee may be paid by credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express) or by wire transfer. We strongly encourage an admissions visit to our campus, but if this is not possible, we can arrange a telephone or skype interview.
If your application is completed by February 15, our decision will be announced by March 10. Admissions applications received after mid-February will be considered on a space-available basis. In such a case, once your application is complete, you will receive a decision within two weeks.
If accepted at High Mowing School, we will send you an "I-20" student visa form that will allow you to apply for a student visa.
If you have questions about our admission requirements, our school, our programs, or our students, please contact us.
