Putting Ideals Into Action
Faculty, staff and students are committed to serving our community. Each year students may be found volunteering in many capacities, such as serving up food at a soup kitchen, teaching young children to knit, blazing trails in a nature preserve, or assisting with admissions visit on campus.
Freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors are all expected to participate in a minimum of fifteen hours of community service per year, for a total of 60 hours. However, many students spend considerably more time with individual or group service projects and fulfill this requirement before they are seniors. Due to the demands of the senior year, students are encouraged to complete this requirement early if possible.
During the school year, a number of service opportunities are offered during class time, as well as on weekends, evenings and during Projects Block. Students who are inspired to serve independently with organizations are able to do so as their schedule permits, or during school breaks. The guidance counselor maintains information on a variety of programs in the local community, and also worldwide opportunities.
In the spirit of serving our community, the school as a whole also commits to cleaning a portion of Abbot Hill Road during the school year.
