High Mowing Board of Trustees elected a new President at their June Board meeting. Steven Lewers, who has been President of the Board for the past three years, has officially passed the reins to Molly Geaney.
Steve, father of Henry Lewers ‘08, has been a trustee at High Mowing since 2005. He also served on the Board of the Lexington Waldorf School where he led a capital campaign to build a home for their new high school. In his three years as President of the High Mowing Board, Steve was instrumental in designing a new leadership structure for the school and in recruiting our new Executive Director.
Steve’s time as president of the board, like many before him, has been a period of ups and downs and difficult choices, but ultimately it has led us to a very good place. As Alice Groh put it after attending a long range planning meeting, “The fact that we could sit here tonight and hear Rea and consultants speak of new, intelligent processes being initiated at the school is, I believe, in large part due to Steve’s insight, conviction, sense of responsibility — and plain old stamina — in making sure the school is headed in a better direction before handing on the reins of the Board to a new person.” We are grateful to Steve for his years of continuing service to the school.
Molly Geaney, a member of the HMS Board of Trustees since 2009 and most recently Vice President, brings with her a vision for the future. She says, “The recent sessions on the Long Range Planning showed that faculty, staff and the Board of Trustees are all eager to work toward excellence in everything we do, including academics, arts, music, horticulture, naturalist programs, and athletics. I am really excited to be a part of this change, working with all the creative, talented people at High Mowing.”
Previously, Molly served for six years, three as President, on the Board of Trustees of Pine Hill Waldorf School. Molly’s husband, Michael Moore, also contributed many hours of his time to both Pine Hill and High Mowing.Their two children, Sam, HMS class of 2008 and Julia, HMS class of 2011, attended both Pine Hill and High Mowing. Sam just recently graduated from Georgetown University, and Julia is at Clark University in Worcester, MA. Molly manages technology programs for financial services companies.
