Greening the Campus – A Step Towards Transition
High Mowing School fosters the growth of each student through exposure to a broad array of subjects. On any particular day, a student may experience four or five distinct activities.
This year we are excited to offer an addition to our regular program. Fall Focus is designed to supplement the standard curriculum and give students the opportunity to immerse themselves for a full week in a particular project. In the context of the rhythm of the year, this week of concentrated activity in autumn finds its counterpart in the Projects Block period of the spring. These are two periods of intense focus, which enhance the students’ other experiences during the regular course of the year. This year, Fall Focus will take place from October 8 —12. Unlike Projects Block, this week long immersion will be held without additional cost and has been included in the cost of tuition. Every student is required to choose one of the projects offered, without choice of an independent project.
The goal of the Fall Focus week is to provide sustainable, local, creative and immersive experiences for students, and to foster their excitement about being positive forces for change. The week long focus will begin each day after block class, to avoid interference with scheduled block courses. All track classes will be suspended for the week to allow time for these projects, with the exception of the performing arts classes, which will be held as usual.
Nearly all projects initiated during this year’s Fall Focus will be continued over the course of the next few years, allowing students to participate in the various stages the projects have to offer.
