Teachers, students and parents all eagerly anticipate Parents Weekend, the one time each year that parents return to campus to get a glimpse of what student life is like here on the hill. This year Parents Weekend will be held October 19-21.
The weekend starts with an opportunity for parents, and middle-school aged siblings, to attend classes on Friday morning with their son or daughter. Block classes include Modern History, Cell Biology, Medieval History and Transcendentalist Writers. Morning track classes include Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Agricultural Policy, Intermediate French & Spanish, French Literature, World History, Culinary Arts, Tone Eurythmy, Painting Styles, Art, and Stained Glass. It is fun to be a 'student' again and see what HMS students are studying, and many parents take advantage of this opportunity.
The rest of the weekend includes meetings and performances. Teachers will meet with the parents of each grade, and the parents as a whole. The Parent Association will have its monthly meeting. Student performances will highlight the weekend with jazz, Sinfonietta, dance and choral performances. A movie retrospective will be held on Friday night which will offer a sampling of student-made films from the last few years. And last but not least, a few purely fun activities are planned throughout the weekend, such as an art project and a scavenger hunt. Nourishment for all these activities will be provided by the excellent meals in the HMS dining room. Take a look at the full schedule here.
Parents will also be able to meet with individual teachers about their son's or daughter's academic progress. Parent/Teacher conferences (pre-scheduled) are available all weekend long.
Each year it is a pleasure to share the glorious New Hampshire fall season with families on this special weekend in October—we are looking forward to it!
