Fall Athletics Celebration
Posted 11/21/2013 06:33PM

The Fall Athletics Celebration was held on November 19, 2013 at High Mowing, marking both the conclusion of the fall athletics season as well as the end of 15 high school soccer careers.

Walter Manny, HMS teacher and boys' soccer coach, began the ceremony with summary of the boys’ season. Walter did not give out personal awards, choosing instead to speak briefly about each player and at length about the seven seniors.

Peter Sheen, Athletics Director and girls' soccer coach, and Liva Jostad-Laswell, Residential Life intern and assistant girls' soccer coach, spoke next. They introduced the girls' team and also spoke about each player and their contributions this year. Peter and Liva gave an award to each of the eight seniors, who led the team in one of its most successful seasons in recent years.

The boys and girls ended their seasons with records of 7-6-3 and 9-4-2, respectively. Both teams finished the season with wins over the Putney School on November 13.

The basketball season is already underway, with practices beginning this week. The first games of the season are in December; the season’s schedule will be posted on the High Mowing Calendar once it is finalized. Stay tuned!
