Student Support Specialist
High Mowing School is now accepting applications for an enthusiastic and experienced Student Support Specialist for the 2026-27 school year. A key member of our faculty, the Student Support Specialist provides holistic guidance, direct instruction, and coordination of the academic student support program. This role bridges academic, social, and extracurricular needs by coordinating resources, delivering academic support, liaising with families, teachers, and coaches, and managing administrative duties to ensure comprehensive support for students. The primary focus of the role is for the high school students, grades 9 through 12. Additionally, the role will serve as a supplemental support to students in grades 7 and 8, and to act as a bridge for student enrollment matriculation from the lower school to the high school.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in education, special education, social work, psychology, or related field.
- Experience in student support, special education, or school psychology.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and best practices related to special education and student support services.
- Experience and familiarity with Waldorf education is preferred.
- Initiative, dependability, and a strong inclination toward collaboration are key attributes of the candidate's success.
Key Responsibilities
Student & Family Support
- Review student evaluations and develop individualized support plans aligned with student needs and goals.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding progress, concerns, and next steps.
- Provide direct support, often with a particular focus on executive functioning skills, or coordinate referrals to appropriate services and resources.
- Monitor and adjust supports based on student progress and changing needs.
Liaison and Coordination
- Serve as a primary liaison between the school and the local SAU to coordinate evaluations and access grant funding.
- Collaborate with faculty to determine appropriate accommodations and modifications to meet diverse learner needs.
- Coordinate with external agencies and service providers as needed to support students.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain and organize student records in collaboration with the registrar and relevant departments.
- Manage, protect, and regularly review special education records in compliance with applicable laws and policies.
- Develop, monitor, and update individual support plans and other required documents.
- Support scheduling, data collection, and reporting as required by district and program guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Admissions Department and 8th grade class teacher in support of student enrollment matriculation from the lower school to the high school.
Program Development and Management
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and ongoing improvement of the academic student support program.
- Collect and analyze program data to measure outcomes and inform decisions.
- Collaborate with school leadership to align supports with school goals and curricula.
- Manage materials, resources, and communications for the program.
