I see teaching at High Mowing as a supremely exciting, fulfilling, and worthwhile endeavor: it enriches this community — which is so important to me — and provides opportunities to our local youth to improve fitness, build self confidence, and unlock potential.
Jon teaches circus arts and movement classes on both our Pine Hill and high school campuses, leading our middle school students in their annual production of the Hilltop Circus, and coordinating our high school Circus Studies Program.
Teaching circus is something that Jon has felt strongly called to do since he was a sophomore at High Mowing. Jon credits being involved in a strong and dynamic youth circus program from the age of 13 as a student on our Pine Hill campus as a major driver in his own development and coming of age, which led him to his passion and career. Before returning to High Mowing, Jon graduated from the Montreal National Circus School and spent many years performing with international circus companies such as Cirque Éloize, Vague de Cirque, and the Georgspalast (GOP) Variety Theater in Germany.
Jon’s favorite part of teaching circus arts is seeing a student succeed at a skill they had previously considered out of their reach — an experience he believes is eminently transferable to many other areas of life. Circus arts teach that with time, patience, good coaching, good technique, and breaking things down into smaller chunks, anything that seems impossible is achievable.
In addition to his work at High Mowing, Jon is the artistic director, head coach, and a founding member of the Flying Gravity Circus, a non profit youth circus program based in New Hampshire. He is also a tour coach with the Circus Smirkus big top tour.
