Parenting through the Seasons by Sherry Jennings

Parenting through the Seasons by Sherry Jennings

We are delighted to share that a new book by alumni faculty member Sherry Jennings was recently published by the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (WECAN): Parenting Through the Seasons: A Companion for Self-Discovery and Daily Life with Children.

If you live nearby, you can join Sherry for a book reading and signing on Friday, March 27, from 10–11 a.m., at Local Share in Wilton, NH!

Sherry has an extensive resume as an educator. In the early 1970s, she helped found Pine Hill Waldorf School, which joined together with High Mowing School in 2017. She also created our Parent and Child program and served as one of its teachers until retiring in 2025. Between 2023 and 2025, Sherry generously shared her reflections and ideas about parenting young children in High Mowing's The Young Child blog.

With over two decades as a practitioner of Nonviolent Communication — a communication process developed by Marshall Rosenberg — Sherry brings compassion, empathy, and honesty to her work and life. In her new book, she shares the fruit of her fifty years of experience as a Waldorf early childhood educator, along with her journey as a parent and a person.

Reviewing Sherry's book for Waldorf Today, Nancy Blanning sums it up as follows: "Sherry Jennings shares engaging descriptions of her childhood growing up in New England where the natural world delighted and astonished her as it unfolded its surprises and beauty through the seasons." She "shares sensible, practical, generous parenting tips to help families navigate their way... Parenting through the Seasons is not a 'self-help' book but gently invites to 'self-growth,' a needed orientation the whole world is longing for."

Parenting Through the Seasons is also available from WECAN and from Amazon.
