At High Mowing School, we offer preschool through grade 8 education on our Pine Hill campus.

    At High Mowing, studio and performance arts are as essential to learning as academic classes. Students explore different techniques in a variety of art classes – fine and manual arts, writing, and music.  Our fully-stocked studios include drawing, painting, pottery, metalwork, woodwork, batik, stained glass, clay sculpture, bookbinding, weaving, and digital arts. Students participate and collaborate with others in performance productions where they are involved in every aspect of performances, from set building to lighting, costume design, and performing.

    At High Mowing we recognize and nurture each student’s unique potential. Our school community is a place for students to discover who they are, to keenly venture into their passion, and to persevere. Students develop the capacities they need to live fully into their unfolding future. A future they are prepared to meet with enthusiasm and grit.

    High Mowing School welcomes students from around the globe. Over the years, students from Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Mexico, South Korea, Spain, and Switzerland—to name a few—have joined HMS to create an international community. High Mowing students are encouraged to participate in student exchanges throughout the world, making global connections by spending a trimester immersed in another culture.

    High Mowing’s students are guided by gifted and committed faculty who recognize each individual’s potential. Mentors lead students in the development of their intellectual, social, artistic, and physical capacities to become resourceful and resilient world citizens. HMS offers an experiential program within a friendly school community, where young people and adults form authentic and meaningful relationships.

    Our students learn through a meaningful curriculum relevant for our time. They learn how to learn. Immersed in challenging courses, students are encouraged to witness, explore, create, and engage deeply in developing and synthesizing their learning. They question and deepen their understanding. They experience the power of persistence.

    Community is one of High Mowing School’s strongest attributes. At High Mowing, students find profoundly meaningful friendships which last a lifetime. All students are invited to participate fully in weekend activities offered on and off campus, including coffee houses, dances, poetry readings, concerts, athletic events, seasonal trips to the ocean, hikes, camping, excursions to Boston, and other regional events.

    Explore High Mowing’s 300-acre classroom.  Academic courses take full advantage of our exceptional location to connect course content with our unique geography, geology, flora and fauna. From the top of Abbot Hill down to the Souhegan River, our campus is filled with opportunities for immersive learning and artistic inspiration. Each day, students observe, document, and learn about their connection with nature. Our Naturalist Program involves students in an in-depth experience of ecology, botany, geography, philosophy, social responsibility, as well as wilderness and crafts techniques. Through close connection with nature’s resilience, students are guided to discover their own.

    Bring your passions to our College and Career Advising Office to find your best next step after high school. We help students discover who they are and where their unique talents can be further developed. Our College and Career Advising program offers guidance to students and their parents, tailored to each student’s individual needs. Throughout the year, the College and Career Advising Office offers multiple sessions on college and life planning, financial aid, scholarships, standardized tests, gap year options, and more.

    HMS athletics program fosters a genuine sense of teamwork and respect for self and others. Students play hard and fair. High Mowing is a member of the New England Preparatory Athletic Council (NEPSAC) District Two, and we participate in interscholastic athletic competitions with other independent New England schools. High Mowing sports facilities include fields to play soccer, lacrosse, and ultimate Frisbee, cross-country running trails, and a gymnasium with basketball court and a weight room. Students also take advantage of an extensive network of trails for cross- country skiing in winter.

Founded in 1942, High Mowing School is an accredited Waldorf co-educational school serving day, boarding, and homestay students in Wilton, NH, from early childhood through grade 12. HMS is a place to grow intellectually, artistically, and socially while living and learning with students from across town and around the world.  Accredited by NEASC and AWSNA (high school current; lower school in process).
