
Medallion Scholarship
The Medallion Scholarship is a prestigious award designed to support students currently enrolled in Waldorf schools who wish to continue their Waldorf education through high school.
As the only Waldorf boarding and day high school in the United States, High Mowing School is uniquely positioned to serve as a beacon for Waldorf students. The scholarship represents a significant investment in the future of Waldorf education, ensuring that students can access the transformative learning experience that Waldorf provides. The High Mowing School Board of Trustees created the Medallion Scholarship as part of the school's commitment to ensuring accessibility and continuity of Waldorf education for dedicated students.

Scholarship Details
Two Medallion Scholarships are awarded annually. Award recipients will be selected based on their demonstrated commitment to Waldorf principles, academic and personal growth, and the potential to thrive in High Mowing’s unique high school environment.
Coverage
The Medallion Scholarship covers 50% of tuition for boarding or day students.
Eligibility
The HMS Medallion Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in Waldorf schools who are applying for admission to grades 9 through 12 at High Mowing School. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to Waldorf education and a passion for continuing their educational journey within this tradition. Special consideration will be given for applicants in grades 11 and 12 who attended a Waldorf high school that has closed.
Continuation
The scholarship applies to a maximum of 4 years of education at High Mowing School. Students must remain in good academic and financial standing. Scholarship recipients may be asked to participate in marketing and development initiatives by providing statements about the value of Waldorf education and High Mowing School.
Rolling Admission
Applications now accepted on a rolling basis.
How to Apply
To be considered for the HMS Medallion Scholarship, applicants must submit the materials below.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee of educators and administrators who are passionate about Waldorf education. Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on the strength of their essay, recommendation, and demonstrated commitment to Waldorf principles. Finalists may be invited to participate in a brief interview with the Admissions Office to discuss their application.

1. Essay: Why Waldorf Education Is Important to Me
Write a 500–750-word essay that explores your personal connection to Waldorf education. This essay should be heartfelt and authentic, showcasing your appreciation for Waldorf education and your aspirations for continuing your education at HMS. Consider including the following in your essay:
- What makes Waldorf education meaningful to you?
- How has your Waldorf experience shaped your learning, creativity, and personal growth.
- Why do you want to continue in Waldorf education through high school?
Highlight specific experiences, projects, or moments that have made a lasting impact on your development. Essays of selected recipients may be published in part or in full.
2. Class Teacher Recommendation
Ask your current class teacher to write a letter of recommendation on your behalf. The recommendation should address the following:
- The student’s academic and personal growth within the Waldorf framework.
- Specific strengths or qualities that make the student an exceptional candidate for the HMS Medallion Scholarship.
- How the student embodies Waldorf principles, such as creativity, resilience, and a commitment to community.
- Teachers should submit their recommendation directly to the High Mowing School Admissions Office via email at admissions@highmowing.org or by mail to the address below.


3. Scholarship Application Form

All application materials, including the essay, class teacher recommendation, and completed scholarship application form, must be submitted by February 1, 2026. Late submissions will not be considered.
