Our athletics program is an integral element of the High Mowing experience. Open to students with a wide range of skill levels, athletics offer students the opportunity to develop a sense of teamwork, experience respect for self and others, and learn to play hard and fair. Our goals: for every student to participate enthusiastically and enjoy the rewards that come with commitment, discipline, being coached, and of course, to have fun!
Playing the cello, writing an essay, creating a piece of art, or scoring a goal, in the classroom or on the field, on one’s own or as a team: at High Mowing, all are opportunities to strengthen relationships and develop new skills.
High Mowing is a member of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) District Two, through which students participate in interscholastic athletic competitions with other independent schools in New England. Schools engaged with NEPSAC share the same athletic principles as we do at High Mowing. This bond fosters a community of sportsmanship within the independent school movement which we highly value.
High Mowing sports facilities include a tennis court, two soccer fields, a multi-purpose field, a gymnasium, and cross-country running trails. Students also enjoy an extensive network of nearby cross-country ski trails.
In the fall, the Dragons have three competitive soccer teams: one co-ed varsity team that will participate in the River Valley Athletic League (RVAL) starting in the fall of 2020 and both a boys and girls team from the Black Rock FC Residential Academy | High Mowing School, which are year-long programs. In the winter, there is both a boys and a girls basketball team who will compete in the RVAL for the first time during the winter of 2019-20. In the spring, the High Mowing Dragons are represented through a track program.
