Celebrating Founder's Day

It lies off the beaten track, but not too far. It is on the top of a hill, but not too high... At the top of the rise swings a wide welcoming circle of brown buildings crowning the top of the hill — the end of the journey. Not too far, not too high — but high enough for breadth of view and far enough for perspective on a busy world and a frantic struggle to get somewhere. Far enough and high enough to lead to a finding of values and goals, enhanced by the beauty of nature and the swing of the sun, moon and stars over the endless quiet of the hills. Meeting Challenges

High Mowing School was founded in 1942 by Beulah Hepburn Emmet, whose vision, determination, and generosity created a fertile soil for the ongoing growth of this unique and dynamic school. On our Founder's Day of Giving last year, we paid tribute to Mrs. Emmet.

This year, we celebrate our second annual Founder's Day of Giving on May 9, 2023, with an emphasis on meeting challenges because our school has a significant history of overcoming difficulty. We have experienced challenges as individuals (think of Mrs. Emmet being told that women should not be in the business of starting schools, or a senior in the fall considering a year-long independent study, or an early childhood student learning how to be away from parents) and as a community (consider the fires, and more recently, a pandemic). Our community does not shy away from difficulty; we face challenges head on.

We are close to realizing our annual giving goal of $850,000 of unrestricted donations. A gift to annual giving ensures that your contribution is used for the most immediate needs. Each gift directly impacts the experience of our 330 students on both campuses.

There are two challenge gifts: one $25,000 dollar-for-dollar match; and another $25,000 will be unlocked after we reach 100 donors for this Day of Giving. Your gift will be tripled with these challenges. If you work for a company that has a matching program, that is another way of maximizing gifts.
