The High Mowing social studies curriculum teaches our students to be informed and aware citizens in an increasingly connected global culture.

In the 9th Grade Modern History blocks the students analyze the people and events that formed the world as we know it today. They investigate the roots of human civilization in the 10th Grade Ancient History block, and the fall of Rome through to the rise of Humanism in the 11th Grade Medieval and Renaissance History block. In 12th Grade the students investigate the allocation of resources in the Economics Block, and the interplay of the sciences and human consciousness through history in the History, Technology + Math Block.

In block the students also study history through specific lenses: History through Art in 9th Grade, History through Language in 10th Grade, History through Music in 11th Grade, and History of Architecture in 12th Grade.

A variety of social studies track classes are also offered at High Mowing. From Philosophy to World Religions, from Government and Economics to Russian Literature, our students delve into specific areas of social sciences and the humanities.

This rich background in human history teaches our students to be global citizens. They learn to use geography and history and economics as tools for interpreting and analyzing the news, and to read that news not for its novelty but for its place in history.
