High Mowing offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses in Spanish and French. Gaining an understanding of other cultures awakens an appreciation of diversity, cultivates creativity, and leads to expanded opportunities for social awareness and justice.

In 9th and 10th grade the students are required to take a World Language. Fundamental skills in grammar and vocabulary are built in the beginner courses, and these classes are taken before lunch so the students are awake, alert, and creative while these critical foundations are built. In the intermediate and advanced courses the focus turns to conversation, reading and writing, advanced tenses, and cultural immersion.

Through all levels of study our teachers use skits and poetry, literature and articles, to develop an understanding and appreciation for the language’s nuances: the rhythm and pace; the history and culture.

The language classes are often supplemented by Projects Block offerings in other countries, allowing students to practice their language skills.
