Student Support Services
Our curriculum and approach naturally support students with diverse learning styles.
At High Mowing, supporting a student starts in the everyday rhythm of the school day. Small classes and close working relationships between teachers and students assure that all students get the attention they need. In addition, every student meets weekly with a faculty advisor so concerns get addressed early, not after they've grown into something bigger. We build support around the student in front of us, not a one-size-fits-all track.
We're dedicated to making sure no one falls through the cracks.
We know student needs rarely live in one box. A student struggling academically might also be navigating a friendship shift, or missing home, or adjusting to a new sleep schedule. Looking at the whole picture, together, is how we make sure we're actually helping. Which is why every week our Student Life Committee brings together the people closest to student wellbeing: our Dean of Students, the Mental Health Counselor, the Director of Residential Life, Health Services, College Counseling, and our Academic Support Coordinator. They meet to talk through student needs as they come up, from a change in someone's mood at dinner, to a formal support request.
Our leadership has an open door policy.
You'll often find students just hanging out on the first floor near the registrar, Dean of Student’s and Program Director’s offices, being themselves.
"I am here for them, and they are what makes my job worthwhile. My focus is on their success."
- Allison Pelletier, Dean of Students

Academic Support
Support starts in the classroom, through a curriculum built on relationship and trust. But we back it up with structure:
Faculty Advisor
Every student is paired with a faculty advisor who checks in regularly and knows their goals, not just their grades. Students have a weekly advisory lunch, and a daily check-in with their advisor is built into everyone’s schedule.
Individual Support Plans (ISPs)
ISPs honor accommodations students received in previous schools. As a private school, we don't offer IEPs, but we work to carry forward the support that's already helped a student succeed.
English Second Language Support (ESL)
During the application process, students whose first language is not English submit Duolingo scores, and those results determine the level of language support they're placed in from day one. We offer both one-to-one tutoring and group ESL classes.
Compass
Compass is High Mowing School's personalized academic coaching and mentoring program, offered as an additional service beyond the school's standard academic support. It's designed to help students build the skills, confidence, and independence they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
Embedded within the school day, Compass provides individualized coaching that meets students where they are, helping them develop strong academic habits and greater ownership of their learning. Compass is optional and available at an additional cost; families interested in enrolling a student should contact [Dean of Students / admissions / whoever owns enrollment] to learn more.
Health and Wellness
For boarding students, we help coordinate your students appointments and support; from attending religious services to therapy appointments, including telehealth, and referrals to outside medical professionals. For day students, our health team works directly with parents to connect students to care.
Mental Health Counseling
Our counseling office is an open door. Counseling is confidential, and our counselor works alongside advisors, faculty, and families, so support is in place before a crisis. Our Student Life Committee also facilitates the Health, Education, Leadership and Prevention (HELP) program, which supports a drug-free and alcohol-free campus through prevention and education, not just response.
medical director and Nursing Staff
A contracted physician is available to conduct physicals and make referrals when a student needs care beyond what we offer on campus.
We also have a nurse on the high school campus during school hours and a 24-hour on-call nurse is available for boarding students, who can respond to both physical and mental health needs overnight.
Athletic Trainer
Our on-staff Certified Athletic Trainer supports student-athletes with injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. Our trainer holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training from the University of New Hampshire, and is certified by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (ATC).
Students have access to on-site athletic training support during practices and competitions, ensuring proper care and guidance for injuries, recovery, and overall athletic health.
Residential Life
Boarding students live with dorm parents who act as a parent figure away from home. Our residential life team includes at least two dorm parents in each dorm. Dorm parents are often the ones who notice first when a student may need extra support, and they know how to either help directly or connect a student to the right resource.
