Colin R. Griggs

Director of Athletics & Residential Life - High Mowing School
Girls Head Coach - Black Rock FC Residential Academy | High Mowing School
Colin R. Griggs comes to High Mowing after spending nine years at Hebron Academy. He joins the community as the Director of Athletics and the Girls' Head Coach for Black Rock FC Residential Academy | High Mowing School. During his tenure at Hebron, Griggs held a host of positions in Alumni & Development, Athletics, Student Life, and as a teacher. He lived in the dorm and coached soccer, basketball and tennis at a variety of levels. During the end of his time, he was the Head Coach for girls' soccer and basketball and both boys' and girls' tennis. Griggs racked up over 200 wins during his time at Hebron across the three different sports as he continues the athletic legacy that is part of the family tradition. During the summer of 2020, Griggs also took over the role of Director of Residential Life at HMS.

Growing up, Griggs spent a lot of his time on the sidelines of the tennis courts and soccer fields at Yale University where his father was the Head Coach of both men's teams. Griggs's mother also comes from an athletic family. She held the state record in Massachusetts for goals in field hockey, only to see the record broken by her sister. She also had seven brothers, three of which were All-Americans on the soccer pitch. Colin has two sisters and one brother. The youngest of the four, Jessica, is currently the Head Coach of the women's soccer team at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. Needless to say, soccer runs in the family.

Prior to being at Hebron Academy, Colin was the Assistant Director of Athletics at both Marianapolis Prep School (Thompson, CT) and at Indian Mountain School (Lakeville, CT) along with being a dorm parent, coach and advisor. He was a member of the men's soccer and tennis teams when he attended Franklin and Marshall College from 2002-2006. During high school, Colin graduated from Newark Academy (Livingston, NJ) in 2001 and then attended Salisbury School (Salisbury, CT) for a postgraduate year before heading to Lancaster, PA for college. During 2017 and 2018, Colin received his master's degree from Ohio University in Athletic Administration. In 2003, Colin received his National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (now the United Soccer Coaches) and then received his Advanced National Diploma two summers later.

Colin is joined at High Mowing by his wife, Sarah, who will teach science and their sons. Raleigh attends school on the Pine Hill campus, and their second son, Henry, was born in August of 2019 just after they arrived on campus.
