Director of Black Rock FC Residential Academy | High Mowing School, Head Coach (Boys)
Scott Miller joins High Mowing School after spending 20 years coaching at the collegiate level. He will serve as the Director of The Black Rock FC Residential Academies (Boys & Girls) and as the Head Coach for the Boys team. During his most recent stay at Sarah Lawrence College, Miller helped build a newly promoted NCAA Division 3 Program. In 2017, he helped guide the Gryphons men's soccer program to their most successful season in program history. His team set records for wins, while setting marks for points, goals, and assists. Miller led Sarah Lawrence to its first-ever conference victories, while adding two Skyline All-Conference performers, including the Skyline Rookie of the Year and Sarah Lawrence College Athlete of the Year. His teams have consistently been recognized for their superior academic performance from both the Conference and United Soccer Coaches Academic Awards.
Prior to Sarah Lawrence, Miller spent 10 years at his alma mater, Alfred University. During his tenure, he led the Saxons to a pair of Empire 8 postseason berths and twice qualified for the ECAC Championship Tournament. Miller's Alfred team was ranked as high as No. 7 in the East Region by the United Soccer Coaches, one of the highest rankings in program history. He has also mentored numerous All-Conference and All-Region selections including the top career goal scorers at both Alfred and Sarah Lawrence.
Miller has served as Division 3 East Region Awards Chair for the United Soccer Coaches since 2014 helping to formulate the All-East Region Teams, All-American Teams, and the Division 3 Player of the Year.
Prior to his Division 3 stint, he assisted at Division 1, George Mason University for two seasons after a playing career took him to the Rochester Rhinos (Formerly A-League Champions), the Vermont Voltage, and the Arizona Sahuaros (both of USL D3, at the time). When he played at Alfred University he was a two time All-Region midfielder who broke records for both career points, and assists.
Miller is a graduate of Alfred University, having studied business administration. In 2017, he completed a master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University and holds a National “A” Coaching License from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
Miller prides himself on his player development by taking an individual approach to address each players specific needs. He makes the game fun and challenging to bring out the best in each player. The four pillars of his philosophy are Respect, Hard Work, Creativity, and Discipline, which when combined, make for the most exciting teams to watch. He puts focus on transforming a team into a family, who support one another in all facets of life.
Miller is joined by his wife, Lisa, their daughters, Stryder, Beckham, and son, Easton.
