High School Basketball Wrap-up
The HMS high school boys basketball just wrapped up one of its best seasons in years. The team finished with an even 2-2 record, narrowly missing a winning season after a heartbreaking one-point loss to Cushing Academy in the final game. The season was a resounding success, both in growth and team development, writes coach John Curran.
With only one senior on the roster, the team was predominantly made up of underclassmen — three freshmen, three sophomores, and two juniors — setting a strong foundation for the future. Additionally, many players were stepping onto the court for the first time, making their progress throughout the season even more remarkable.
What truly set this team apart, though, was its commitment to inclusivity. At the start of the season, the players agreed to ensure roughly equal playing time for everyone, recognizing that the personal experiences of the players is more important than the scores of the games. This rare opportunity in high school sports made every game a true team effort and gave each player a chance to contribute, making their accomplishments on the court this season even more meaningful and their record that much more impressive.
