In the dead of January, music, and imagery keeps us warm. Both are part of the 2018-2019 Music on the Hill concert series at High Mowing School’s next concert—“In the Garden of Affections: Works by Alessandro Scarlatti” on Saturday, January 26.
“As flowers die, they are born again, just as the beauty of this music truly exists only in its performance,” says Music on the Hill Artistic Director Andrew Koutroubas. “We are so excited to offer these stirring selections encompassing a myriad of colors and emotions by the all too often overlooked Italian master—Alessandro Scarlatti.”
HMS High School music instructor Mark Ferguson will conduct a special appearance by the High Mowing high school orchestra, along with the Boston players, as the first number on the program. The remaining program features Scarlatti's Concerti, Sinfonia, and the secular cantata "Bella Madre dei Fiori” (beautiful mother of flowers) performed on period instruments.
Featured musicians include recorder soloist Martin Bernstein, vocalist Mara Bonde Ricker, concertmaster Danilo Bonina, and HMS Artistic Director and middle school instructor Andrew Koutroubas 'PH08.
The Music on the Hill Concert series is sponsored by Ciardelli Fuel Company and the Anthroposophical Society of NH.
