Preschool and Kindergarten

Our early childhood program offers an imaginative and active first school experience for children and families, setting the foundation for lifelong learning.

Here children experience a consistent daily rhythm, which promotes security and trust, and balances the need for energetic free play with engaging, structured activities.

Preschool and kindergarten classes are for potty-trained children ages 33 months to 6 years old. We offer 3- or 5-day options, either half day (dismissal at 1 p.m.) or full day (dismissal at 3:15 p.m.)

We take great care to create a beautiful, home-like environment where children’s senses are nurtured. Here, children learn by engaging in play, stories, and practical household activities such as washing dishes, sweeping, and baking. We incorporate seasonal crafts, movement, outdoor adventures, and ample creative free play to encourage joyful learning and imaginative exploration.

We nurture the young child’s imagination as a great treasure: songs, poems, puppet plays and circle games tune the child’s ear to the beauty of language. Bread-baking, drawing, and painting awaken the senses. The use of natural materials — such as wood, silk, or beeswax — appeals to the sense of touch and engenders reverence for nature. Outdoor play, nature walks, and gardening allow the children to experience the joy of movement.

In our preschool and kindergarten classrooms, healthy social interactions are guided, listening skills are sharpened, and large and fine motor skills are nurtured to fully develop, preparing the young child for future academic challenges in the grade school.

The Last Days of Summer

It is August. Mornings are no longer filled with birdsong. Except for an occasional chirp or the raucous calls of crows, there is quiet. But the air is not empty. It is filled with the sounds of tomatoes ripening and corn tasseling. This quiet of summer is unlike the quiet of winter. Winter’s quiet is still but in summer the air is electric, filled with a palpable explosion of energy. Nature is bursting forth in abundance. Color and form explode into the landscape. Ripening and fruiting are at their pinnacle.
